Briefly about:

Studying at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague means studying at a music institute which stands for the highest quality of education; one in which leading international musicians are associated as teachers, and where tradition and craftsmanship are inextricably entwined with experiment and innovation.
The primary objective of the Royal Conservatory is to train young talent to the highest levels of artistry, craftsmanship and versatility within the powerful triangle of elements that forms the DNA of our institute:
– Education: We work to provide music and dance education at the highest level, but we also see the learning process as a way of life for students, teachers, and everyone who takes the arts and themselves seriously.
– Research: As a permanent attitude to everything we do, as well as in the academic sense with the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts at Leiden University and within our Bachelor and Master courses.
– Production: All expertise, craftsmanship and research leads to the production and presentation of dance and music performances, with the intention of sharing these with as many people as possible.
Our education (and increasingly research) includes creating, recreating and presenting. It is taking place inside the conservatory and in the outside world together with organizations, institutions and fellow professionals, our colleagues, with whom our artists share a community.
Studying at the Royal Conservatoire is not only about achieving success, but also about learning, the sharing of experiences, the exploration of new directions and an engagement in experiment. This maintains the vitality of our courses in music and dance over time. The Royal Conservatoire emphasises its strong contribution to the development and therefore the future of dance and music.
The Royal Conservatoire has a strong international profile. Not only is almost 65% of its student population from outside the country, the conservatoire is also actively involved in EU programmes. It is the coordinator of the ERASMUS Network for Music ‘Polifonia’ and has coordinated an ERASMUS Intensive Programme on Improvisation. It also has high numbers of staff mobility in the framework of the ERASMUS+ KA1 mobility.
